ARMA, often stylized as ARMA, is a series of first-person tactical military shooters originally developed for Microsoft Windows. Known for its emphasis on realism and simulation, it combines large-scale military operations spanning expansive terrains with intense close-quarters combat. The series launched in 2006, with the latest installment released in 2013. Subsequent titles have been made available not only on Windows but also on Linux, Android, and iOS platforms.
The inaugural game, *ARMA: Armed Assault*—also known as *ARMA: Combat Operations* in the United States—debuted for Windows in November 2006 in the Czech Republic and Germany, February 2007 across Europe, and May 2007 in the United States, utilizing the Real Virtuality 2 engine. Its successor, *ARMA 3*, is a standalone title released for Windows on September 12, 2013, built on the more advanced Real Virtuality 4 engine. Before its official release, ARMA 3 was accessible to players via Steam’s Early Access program starting March 5, 2013. Between late 2015 and early 2016, it was also released in an earlier version for Linux and Mac, with plans to update these versions to match the main Windows release later on.
